Jiji Shinpōsha. Jūjikan. Osaka. Taisho 12 (1923). This 1923 photographic album commemorates the 6th Far Eastern Championship Games, which were held in Osaka. Participating nations were the Philippines, Republic of China, and Japan, and their national flags adorn the front cover (the Philippines is represented by the US national flag). A variety of competitions were held over several days across Osaka, including track and field, swimming, volleyball, tennis, and football.

A near fine copy in the scarce jacket. Phyllis Mary Kaberry was a social anthropologist who dedicated her work to the study of women in various societies. Particularly with her work in both Australia and Africa, she paved the way for a feminist approach in anthropological studies

Trimmed outside the copperplate, 4mm margins on right, left and lower side, 2mm margin upper side. Upper left corner of the margin reinforced.

No Imprint (Peking?) n.d. (early 20th century) Oblong. Rice paper, bound in the Asian style. 12 leaves of plates, each leaf with two delicate hand-coloured illustrations describing local businesses, so 24 hand-coloured illustrations in total. Fine and rare.

Preceded by the U.S. edition, the UK edition was limited to 1000 copies. [Roberts A27b.].

Inscribed `from the authoress July 1915', and with a photograph of Louisa mounted on the verso of the titlepage. Also tipped in is the typescript of a poem `Farewell'. The only book of poems by the mother of Henry Lawson. From 1888 to 1905 she was editor and manager of the `Dawn', a literary journal for women. She published Henry Lawson's first book in 1894, and also short stories of her own.

PARSONS, pseudonym of] Oil on canvas on board 400mm(H) x 500mm(L) Panoramic view of Sydney Harbour with a detailed depiction of St. Mary's Cathedral, with Bennelong Point at the back and Archibald Fountain lower left. State Library of NSW and Art Gallery of NSW buildings are visible at left of the Cathedral. Overall in very good condition. Board slightly uneven on the right side.

Many marginal notes on the persons involved, the endpapers filled with relevant anecdotes and an index, all in contemporary or early 18th century hands. Uemura, Masurō. Takamizawa Mokuhansha. Tokyo. Showa 12 (1937). A collection of one hundred delicately reproduced Japanese ukiyo-e prints and includes works by Sharaku, Utamaro, Eisen, Hiroshige, Hokusai and others.

This collective publication of Transactions of the Royal Society for 1776, running to altogether 53 articles on a rich variety of subjects, includes two original works by James Cook, who appeared in print surprisingly little during his illustrious career. The first piece (pp. 402-6) is Cook’s famous account of the measures taken on the Resolution during the second voyage to combat scurvy, in which he discusses the merits of malt, “Sour Krout”, “portable soup” and citrus fruit. Cook’s piece is addressed to the Royal Society’s president, Sir John Pringle, who read it on Cook’s behalf.
