A Rare Miniature of Lord Nelson

A small, charming ivory painting of Lord Nelson, expertly painted, measuring 7 X 9cms, showing Nelson in a classic pose, wearing his naval uniform with medals and orders and cockaded hat. Instantly recognizable and beautifully framed with museum glass. Most likely made in the 18th century, possibly not long after Nelson’s death, for a wealthy admirer. Very rare.

Also their effigies, seals, tombs, cenotaphs, Devises, Arms, Quarterings, Crests and supporters. 1707. Folio in fine calf, original covers with lightly incised covers, a later re-backing with new spine in slightly lighter calf with raised band. Bookplate of Stephen Martin Leake (1702–1773), a prominent heraldist and another more modern bookplate with no name just an engraving of Englishmen and a slave!
